Electrical work for small commercial sites

A commercial electrician, for the sites we take on, is the person who keeps a shop, an office or a workshop usable. New lighting, extra sockets for the counter or the benches, a board that has run out of ways, and faults that show up at the worst time of the trading day. The domestic work and this work are the same team. The difference is that your customers, or your staff, are usually in the building.

  • Lighting repairs and replacements that do not wait for a refit
  • Small power for counters, salons, workshops and back offices
  • Consumer unit and board work where the existing cupboard has been added to for years
  • Fault finding when a circuit takes out the till, the fridges or the benches
  • Inspection reports when a landlord, a buyer or an insurer has asked for one
  • Supplies to plumbing, heating and air-conditioning plant

If you want the domestic overview as well, it is on the electrician in Preston page. If the unit is in the dark right now, call the emergency electrician line.

Fitting the visit around the business

The useful question is not "can you come Tuesday" but "when can this circuit be off". A cafe cannot lose the fridges at noon. A workshop cannot lose the benches in the middle of a job. An office can often lose a lighting circuit after 5, or before 8. Tell us the constraint and we will quote the visit against it.

Some work is quiet enough to do while you trade: a single fitting, a fault that is already off, a survey for a later board change. Some is not. We will say which yours is. Arriving with a cheerful promise and then killing the power at 11 is how commercial jobs go wrong.

Boards, reports and the cupboard everyone ignores

Small units collect breakers. A heater here, a sign there, a bit of kit in the back, until the board is full and unlabelled. That is when a small fault becomes a long morning, because nobody knows what the red switch does. We trace, label, and where the board is the problem, we quote a replacement rather than adding one more unnamed way.

If a lease or a sale needs a written condition report, book it as that. An EICR-style inspection needs access and a power-off window. It is a poor use of everyone's time to discover the paperwork requirement after we have only come to change two lights.

When the unit needs more than an electrician

Cafes, salons and workshops often fail in pairs. The electrics and the water, or the electrics and the heating, or the air-conditioning plant on the wall outside. Splitting that across two diaries is how a unit stays shut for an extra day.

Plumbing is covered on the plumber in Preston page, heating and boilers on the heating page. Air-conditioning plant, where we are already on site for the supply, can be talked through on the same call. Describe the kit. If it is outside what we do, we will tell you before you book a wasted visit.

What you get at the end

Circuits that are labelled, a clear note of anything left isolated, and a tidy cupboard. If the job was a repair, you get an explanation of the cause so it is not a mystery the next time a breaker goes. If the job needs a second visit, you get a time, not a vague "we'll be back".

Call Ben and the team on 07869 600553 with the unit address and a photo of the board. Day or night for genuine emergencies. Planned work booked around the hours you gave us.

FAQs

Commercial electrician questions

What do you class as light commercial?
Shops, salons, cafes, offices, workshops, small warehouses and similar units. Lighting, sockets, boards, fault finding, and the odd bit of plant that sits alongside. If the site is a large factory, a three-phase installation we have not seen, or anything high voltage, say so at the start. We will tell you if it is outside what we do.
Can you come before we open, or after we close?
Yes. That is often the only sensible time to isolate a board or a lighting circuit. Tell us the real hours, including delivery times, not the hours on the door. Overnight emergencies are on the same 24/7 number if the unit cannot trade.
Do you repair faults as well as fit new work?
Yes. A shop with half the lights out, a workshop socket that trips the bench, or an office where one side of the room is dead, is everyday work. We find the circuit and repair it where we can, or isolate it and book the follow-up if the cable is hidden.
Can you do an electrical report for a commercial let?
Often, yes. Landlords and buyers of small units ask for a condition report before a lease or a sale. Tell us who has asked and what they sent you. Inspection visits are described on our EICR page. We will say if your paperwork request is that kind of report.
We need plumbing or air conditioning as well as the electrics.
Say so on the first call. Washrooms, staff kitchens, heating and air-conditioning plant often fail next to the electrics, and they usually get split across two firms. The same team covers plumbing, heating and the electrical supply to that plant. One visit where the job allows it.
Will the work shut us for the day?
Not if we can avoid it. Changing a board or testing circuits does need the power off for a period. We agree that window with you. Replacing a fitting, adding a socket on a quiet circuit, or tracing a fault can often happen while you stay open. We will not pretend a full board change is invisible.
Do you cover units on the edge of Preston?
Yes, across the towns listed on this page, as long as the job is the light commercial work we do. Send the address. If it is a long way out or a site we are not set up for, we say so before you hold a morning open for us.
How do we get a price?
Call or WhatsApp 07869 600553 with photos of the board and of the area you want changed. Small repairs can often be priced from that. A new installation, a board, or anything that needs the unit measuring is quoted after we have seen it, or from drawings if you have them.
